Jairo Joel Cuevas (born January 24, 1984 in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic) is a pitcher for the Kansas City Royals.

Cuevas was originally signed as an undrafted free agent by the Atlanta Braves on March 20, 2003. Cuevas began his professional career in 2004, playing at the rookie level. In his first season, he had a 2-3 record to got with a 2.77 ERA. Cuevas stayed at the rookie level in 2005, playing for the Danville Braves. Making 10 starts in 12 games, he had a 6-1 record with a 1.91 ERA. He was also named to the Appalachian League postseason All-Star team.

Cuevas advanced to Single-A in 2006, playing for the Rome Braves. His below average performance was marked by a 7-12 record with a 5.55 ERA. In 2007, he played for the Single-A Myrtle Beach Pelicans. In 25 games, all starts, he had a 6-12 record despite a 3.55 ERA.

On November 20, 2007, the Braves purchased his contract, protecting him from the Rule 5 Draft.

On October 24, 2008, the Royals claimed Cuevas off waivers.[1]

On November 26, 2008, the Braves claimed him off waivers from the Royals.[2]

On December 10, 2008, the Royals reacquired him from the Braves.[3] However, he was non-tendered 2 days later, and then re-signed to a minor league deal.
